Lucky me! I’m not kidding. Myself and Alistair Cooper, Master of Wine (and client of Hello Henley) were invited as guests of the Gérard Bertrand Truffle and Pruning Festival #FeteTailleGB in Narbonne at the weekend. It was an absolutely fantastic experience. Narbonne itself is a wonderful place – I would throughly recommend a visit. Of course while there it would be unforgivable not to stay at (or at least visit) the biodynamic Chateau L’Hospitalet. This wonderful vineyard / hotel is located between land and sea and is the jewel of the Launguedoc-Roussillon.
During my visit I received a plethora of wine masterclasses, I learnt all about Winter pruning and even got to dabble in a spot of truffle hunting – led by Mosquito the sniffer dog. But hold the phone, that’s not all! I then delighted my senses with a gastronomic Gala Truffle Dinner, alongside Jon Bon Jovi (as you do).
However, the biggest treat (and blush-moment) of the evening was Chateau L’Hospitalet owner and wine producer Gerard Bertrand gifting me (in person) with a very special wine – a 1977 Rivesaltes. A little bird told him it was my birth year.
Whopping thanks to all the team at Gérard Bertrand, especially Anne Serres, Director of Communications, and of course, to Gérard himself!
